Retail Brokerage and Distribution Canada—Regional Perspectives in the Brokerage Channel

Regional Wealth and Competitive Dynamics Drive Differences in Distribution Mix

This issue of the Retail Brokerage and Distribution Report continues our ongoing overview of the Canadian distribution landscape and examination of the primary channels within its regional markets and where each has found relative success.

Since the release of our latest regional wealth breakdown in 2018, there have been a number of changes that have impacted overall wealth and the distribution channels, the most significant of these being the discovery of COVID-19 in December 2019. The pandemic and resulting lockdowns were a catalyst to many of these changes as individuals and businesses moved online, and the financial services industry adapted to the “new normal”.

The analysis highlights the competitive distribution trends in each region and provides key benchmarking metrics, as well as potential opportunities for growth. While similar, each of the regions we measure have a distinct composition in channel distribution and these channel dynamics are reflective of the allocation of economic wealth and regional differences within each of the provinces.
