Retail Brokerage and Distribution Report Winter 2016

The Winter 2016 edition of the Retail Brokerage and Distribution Advisory Service provides our biennial regional check-up on financial wealth and key distribution channels. During the past two years, financial wealth and the distribution channels through which it is delivered, experienced varying degrees of regional growth—a mix of new highs, as well as some retrenchment. The regional views of the full-service brokerage and other distribution channels, provide an important departure from the aggregate national picture of distribution. Over the latest two year period, distributors of financial products and services experienced mounting pressure in the form of regulatory scrutiny, delivery economics and provincial micro- and macro-economic trends. The feature leverages our detailed segmentation data and data from our 2015 Household Balance Sheet as a starting point to form a basis for the assessment of each distribution channel.  This feature uses the regional lens to focus on the growth dynamics within and between key distribution channels. The report goes on to focus on the full-service brokerage channel by providing a regional diagnosis of the business, the strength of the Big Six full-service brokerage firms and a series of regional rankings of top firms on key metrics such as assets, growth and sales force changes. The feature is an important read for all financial service providers, both regional and national in scope, who are looking to maintain a clear competitive picture of regional trends and developments. The feature is especially important for full-service brokerage firms considering their position relative to their key competitors in each region.
